I don't know my pet's microchip number

The quickest places to check are your existing pet documents and veterinary records. If you cannot find it, the pet can be scanned.

What to do

Step 1Check the microchip certificate, pet passport and vaccination records.
Step 2Look in insurance, breeder or adoption paperwork.
Step 3Ask your vet whether the chip number is recorded on your pet's file.
Step 4If necessary, ask a vet, rescue centre or dog warden to scan the pet.
Step 5Write the number down and keep it securely for future use.

What to have ready

  • Pet name
  • Approximate age
  • Vet practice
  • Any adoption/breeder documents
Do not post your full microchip number publicly. Use it only with trusted services and the official database process.
