Lost your microchip paperwork?

You usually do not need the original paper certificate to recover the chip number or identify the database.

What to do

Step 1Check vet records, pet passport, insurance documents and adoption paperwork.
Step 2Ask your vet to check their clinical record.
Step 3If you still cannot find the number, ask a vet, rescue centre or dog warden to scan the pet.
Step 4Once you have the number, identify the database and request replacement account access or documentation.

What to have ready

  • Pet name and description
  • Vet details
  • Approximate implantation/adoption date
  • Keeper contact details
A microchip scanner reads the chip number only; personal keeper details are retrieved from the registered database by authorised users.
