Previous owner still registered

This is common after a private sale, rehoming or breeder transfer. You should contact the database holding the record and use its disputed or unsupported transfer process.

What to do

Step 1Find the database holding the microchip.
Step 2Explain that you are the current keeper but the previous keeper is still registered.
Step 3Submit the transfer request through the database's official process.
Step 4Provide evidence showing how the pet came into your care.
Step 5Respond promptly if the database asks for more information.

What to have ready

  • Sale/adoption agreement
  • Payment receipt or messages
  • Vet records in your name
  • Insurance documents
  • Pet passport or health records
Do not try to bypass the existing keeper. The database decides whether the evidence is enough to update the record.
