Transfer after buying a dog

Bought a Dog but the Microchip Was Not Transferred

This was one of the recurring problems in real pet-owner support enquiries: the dog has changed hands, but the database record has not. Start by identifying the database and then use its official keeper-transfer process.

What to do

  • Find the microchip database
  • Contact the seller or breeder if possible
  • Ask them to initiate or approve the transfer
  • Keep purchase messages and receipts
  • If they cannot be contacted, ask the database about its evidence process
PetChipHelp is an independent guidance service. We can help identify the database and explain the process, but official microchip records are changed by the database provider that holds the registration.

Have the microchip number?

Check which database appears to hold the record, then go straight to the right provider.
