ProtectedPet microchip help

Independent guidance for ProtectedPet microchip lookups, keeper details and record-update questions.

Is your pet registered with ProtectedPet?

If you are not certain, enter the pet's microchip number into the PetChipHelp finder. If the lookup returns ProtectedPet, use the provider information returned by the finder for the official next step.

Common ProtectedPet questions

  • How do I change my address or phone number?
  • How do I transfer the pet to a new keeper?
  • What if the previous keeper is still registered?
  • What if I have lost my microchip paperwork?
  • How do I report the pet lost or stolen?

Updating an existing record

The microchip itself normally does not need changing when your address or keeper details change. The registration held by the database provider needs to be updated. Use the provider's official account or support process rather than creating another registration just to work around an access or transfer problem.

Changing keeper

If a pet has changed keeper, the database may require action from the currently registered keeper or supporting documents. Keep purchase, adoption, breeder, rescue and relevant vet records available until the transfer is resolved.

ProtectedPet is listed among the UK databases that meet government standards. PetChipHelp is independent and is not operated by ProtectedPet.

Check the chip before contacting anyone

Use the chip number to confirm the database and get the provider details returned by the lookup.
