Duplicate microchip registration

Pet Appears on Two Microchip Databases: What Should You Do?

If the same chip appears to have been registered more than once, do not keep adding new registrations. Identify the providers involved and ask them how the records should be reconciled.

Resolve conflicting records

  • Confirm the chip number by scanning if needed
  • Identify every database returning for the number
  • Check which keeper details are current
  • Contact the databases involved
  • Keep written confirmation of any correction or closure
PetChipHelp is an independent guidance service. We can help identify the database and explain the process, but official microchip records are changed by the database provider that holds the registration.

Have the microchip number?

Check which database appears to hold the record, then go straight to the right provider.
