Registration problem

Dog Microchip Not Registered: What to Do Next

A chip can be implanted but the registration may be incomplete, incorrect or difficult to locate. Confirm the number was read correctly and check the database finder again before deciding what to do next.

Troubleshooting

  • Ask for the number to be rescanned if there may be a typo.
  • Check old certificates or vet records.
  • Ask the breeder, rescue or previous keeper where it was registered.
  • Contact the chip implanter or database provider if known.
PetChipHelp is an independent guidance service. We can help identify the database and explain the process, but official microchip records are changed by the database provider that holds the registration.

Have the microchip number?

Check which database appears to hold the record, then go straight to the right provider.
