Microchip Number Not Found? Reasons and Next Steps

A no-result lookup does not automatically mean the pet has no chip. The number may have been entered incorrectly, the registration may be incomplete or additional investigation may be needed.

Check these first

  • Remove spaces and re-enter the full chip number.
  • Compare it with a certificate or ask for a fresh scan.
  • Check breeder, rescue and vet records.
  • Ask the original implanter or previous keeper which database was used.
PetChipHelp is an independent guidance service. We can help identify the database and explain the process, but official microchip records are changed by the database provider that holds the registration.

Have the microchip number?

Check which database appears to hold the record, then go straight to the right provider.
